不同版本答案不同 到底选什么？为什么？

先把有economical的选项去掉.那么就剩A和D了.

A里面的more than后面部分和前面部分不平行. 而且主句部分应该用虚拟语态,所以要用would.

因此我觉得答案选D.

have to know跟would have to know不一樣的地方是have to know是很肯定的語氣
would have to know是不很肯定的語氣
不太覺得有什麼大hint...maybe I miss it...

因为后面有一个more than now在，说明实际上现在不是这样的。所以用虚拟语气

其实GWD/prep上的选项略有不同，但是都没有拿have to/would have to当最后的判断点。

个人感觉此题考的还是more than的比较

如果they do被省略，把句子补足以后会发现，

demographers have to know a great deal more than they have to now about the social and economic.

但是句子原意是demogrphers have to know a great deal more than they know now.所以这里的know用do来替代，避免歧义。

A不是正确答案。

正确的Interpretation是这样：

demographers have to know a great deal more than they know now about the social and economic.

但是A的Internpretatiion只能是这样。

demographers have to know a great deal more than they have to know now about the social and economic.

Interpretation 2是有点莫名奇妙的结构。

两个现在的 have to 做比较

Alienx我有点不同的看法，我觉得在新PREP和GWD中对语气的考察是加强了，有那么几道题就是很明显的必须从语气角度考察。

这是我当初对这题的分析，着时伤脑筋：

A.
        have to错应使用would have to，见C。此处的比较为状语比较，
        不可省略主谓。见E

B.
        have to错应使用would have to，见C。economical为cheap or not wasteful的意思，而economic

却relating to trade, industry, and the management of money，是考点，但应最后来考虑。

C. economical错见B。

D. would have toMingLiU","serif"; mso-ascii-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma;">，表示一件应当做但没做的事，表示现在应该如何，但事实与之不符（或相反）。原题中有more than nowMingLiU","serif"; mso-ascii-font-family: Tahoma; mso-hansi-font-family: Tahoma; mso-bidi-font-family: Tahoma;">的重要提示，则一定要用虚拟表达“本应该”的意思。此处的比较为状语比较，
        不可省略主谓。

        此处的比较为状语比较，
        不可省略主谓。省略则变成了a great deal（information of other n.）和一个时间在比较。
