i don't think the name of 中大 or pku would matter in the application. the point is how LZ stands out his academic intelligence and convinces people in the committee. this year the competition is simply fierce, and most of you will go nowhere.

I guess Joe met many other students coming from different schools when he visited China. Why did he just pick up Han? If we follow the logic you mention above, seeing a professor/professors will matter a lot in the application. What's a joke!

As I said, a successful application is based on the fitness to the program and the presentation by the applicant. It is not simply contingent on the schools the applicants come from. LZ has slim chance in top 20, but it is not because of the schools he graduates. Instead, he has a low gpa, and doesn't have any research experience to stand out among others. Furthermore, the competition this year is really brutal. In the past years, around me, I can see a few (if not some) applicants can get offers from top business schools with the similar background.

研究生gpa很烂，gmat低了。strategy, marketing, organization都比较偏好有paper的人。今年市场又这样，楼主性格又这样。

事实上中文大学的简称是公认的中大

that is what in your mind, not represent other's opinion. It is like in south area, people consider Nanjing University as " Nan Da", but people in north area, consider "Nan Da" as Nankai University.

But if people talk about "Nan Da", you still know it is either Nanjing University or Nankai University.
