新东方的规则是说过不能用which但是这个并不是绝对的，实战中这个原则好像越来越被弱化了。这道题的关键是在主谓一致上面，在were和outgrowths上面，因为无论是that还是which都是指代a coolness of judgment and mutability of purpose 复合主语所以应该用复数的形势。（bring to b a=bring a to b）

这是OG里的题吧，要知道新东方的原则也是从这些题里出来的，但是这并不是绝对的。
其实老早开始大家就说实战中correction与我们平时做的感觉不一样。也许你不相信，但是我考试的时候就遇见过这种情况，只是我比较幸运，因为选项中都用了which我没个选择所以就从别的出题点入手了。76题很明显C说得已经很到位了，DE明显的罗索没有必要这么套来套去的...简洁才是永远不会变的原则。

用which 没错呀。 先行词是  a coolness of judgment and mutability of purpose。

since which refers to 'a coolness ...', why is 'were' used? subjunctive mood? what's the structure of this sentence? thanks
