since Rice is not at the top, so go for Georgia is better choice. no expense for yourself and furthermore. People in China would not know rice is a better school. Unless u want to work in USA in the rest of your life.
The decision involves personal life beliefs. Want to stand on the peak of every mountain or continuously climb toward a certain goal while enjoying the beauty and harmony that life endowed.
I have friend graduated from Wharton business school with 100000 student loan. Under current job market, he could land on a decent postion with that figure as first year salary easily(he has the green card). But he will has nothing left after paying 35% of tax and at least 2000 loan payment 1000 monthly rent, let alone other insurance\medicare\car payment\gas. The fact is, if he can't make himself a fortune within 10 years no matter he robs a bank or gets promoted to an executive position which is definately not easy for a chinese, this 10 years, before he pays off the student loan, will make him live in hell, though admired by his peer.
Confident that I can get offers from such top schools as Michican\Berkeley, but doubt they will provide any scholarship or stipend. As I said I am not a big bullfrog with outsanding GMAT and GPA, an offer from an ordinary school with fair reputaion but generous fellowship might the best choice.
On route to the peaks set up for myself, I still want to enjoy the songs of birds and the whispers of creeks.
Thank you all that have made rational suggestions.
it is said that when pursuing a mba degree, the closer to the job market the better. i know wake forest and geogia are both in the south of american, not in very developed area. i have no other meaning, just a reminder.
I went to Rice for studying a year Aug 2002 to June 2003. That was a really nice school. Actually I was an undergraudate overthere, however, I could work as a research assistant in the businesss school...get paid of US$10.5 per hour, that was not bad. as I know nothing and I did just a easy job. People over there are nice. I would love to go back Rice if I can. However, the Money is really a consideration. May be you should try out finding the scholarship or assistantship. You may know, Rice has lots of Money. you may keep sending Email or finding resources. Think about it seriously! Rice in Houston is really really famous. When I told others I went to Rice when I was in Houston, they said " Oh, you must be very smart! Genius" and they respect Rice students so much. like having noble life there. Also, in texas, Oil industry is popular, they may want to employ even international students. As you said, you want to work and have a simple life in US. That should be a consideration. In New York, it is hard to get a H1 visa (a working visa), the company have to sponor you for your visa. you can see, in those competitive city, who would like to emply an extra expensive employee who is not that very especial ( I mean there are tons of MBA students graduate). So, think about it.
Also, in Rice, there are at least 2-3 career fair each semester, you may easy to find a job or internship over there.
Thank you very much for your encouragement. I received a call from the admission director asking me about my decision last friday. He's pretty nice encouraged me and said that he would go over my profile this week to see if he can do anything about financial aid. Honestly, I don't count on the generousity of Rice as I don't believe it can award me with full-tuition support. I bargained with Wake Forest university(the noble school as is Rice in NC.)after been awarded 28000, the director agreed to increase 15% scholarship, still far from the whole program expanses.
As I mentioned above, graduating from a top school with a huge loan is not my priority. I'd rather leave the money for later job hunting or easier options. Another friend of mine just graduated from a top 50 school but also found himself a very good position in bank risk management with admirable salary and future. When it comes to career, the repuation of schools is just a knocking brick, the core lays on one's integrate ablities, which can be upgraded by the education one receives, but can't be essentially changed by mere a MBA program.
I appreciate your sharing your insight and also wish you good luck!
I see you have a very good master of English. Just for your reference, I've heard Huston is not a nice place to live with although I haven't been there yet.
