in recognition of X[逻辑主语不一致时 使用，通常位于句尾]= recognizing X[逻辑主语一致时使用]--为固定搭配[类似的还有 in the hope of doing sth/to the despair of sb]。
仔细体会：sth be done in the reconition of X =reconizing X, sb do sth.

因此这里不是award/Vt sb for sth/doing sth的搭配。

感觉 the nation's highest military award 在这里只是做一个插入成分，是那个Medal的同位语。

所以结构其实是 awared the Congressional Medal of Honor, (________), in recognition of bravery

另外 in recognition of 确实是更idiomatic的说法

所以the nation’s highest military award 和 in long-overdue 都是同位语修饰honor对吗？，所以两个同位语之间不需要用逗号连接对么？我就是因为这个原因排除了E。。。。

我觉得in recognition of不是honor的同位语，是状语，修饰主句“为战士颁发奖章”，为的是赞誉他们的英勇，这赞誉迟来了好久。如果选C，overdue倒是有可能修饰honor.

这题不能把long overdue放在for后面，不然就成了长期的这个条件也作为奖励的一部分了

这题你不懂固定搭配的话可以这样看，首先看修饰
for long-overdue blabla 后面有个their，如果不用逗号隔开就修饰nation's highest award，那意思就不对，去掉BD剩下ACE，AC里面不堪搭配有两个错误，一个是从句中过去式，我觉得这个至今还是最高荣誉，不应该用过去时，特别前面说过posthumous这个词，其一，其二是那个词来修饰recognition的问题，可以排除掉C
