do you have some "technical" courses this semester? like micro, stat, or some math course? if you do, they can know your grades in your transcript before they make a decision...(so you must have excellent grades on these courses)
if all you are taking this semester are intro courses like Investment, Corporate Finance, then I don't think this will help you a lot...although it is still definitely positive to your application...
This semester I have 3 classes: Financial Accounting, Managerial Economics(nearly the same as Micro and Macro,I think) and Quantitative Methods(using SPSS).
In my BA,I learned Stat, micro and macro,I learned micro well, but macro get a high score.
After this semester,I will have financial modeling class, but I have no maths classes,is this a big disadvantage?
from the perspective of the application, I think yes. You can take some econ/math courses (at the level of 1st year econ phd) in your 2nd semester. If you apply now, you do not have a lot to show...I have to say...
but if you apply after you finish your master, how can you stay in the US while you are working on your application? I mean, doesn't the new OPT rule require that you can not be unemployed for a consecutive 90-day period? Or, you can of coz find a job and apply when you are working...
