Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

There are times when lying is acceptable.

Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

 

 

It goes without saying that people around us lying off and on. Some people argue that there is no possibility that there are times when lying is acceptable, while others hold the opposite opinion. As far as I am concerned, I agree with the former one. My reasons are as follows.

 

First of all, lying can bring people with more excitement. For example, last year, in my mom birthday party, I prepared a fantastic birthday gift for my mom, it was a pretty rabbit toy because mom loves rabbits very much. In order to give her a surprise, I hid it in a box. When she asked me what it was in the box, I lied to her. I told her that it was a birthday cake. Then, when she opened the box and found the rabbit, she was totally made happy to tears. So, I am fully convinced that it is appropriate for people to lying sometimes when they have some benefits to others.

 

Secondly, lying can avoid arguments off and on. For instance, imagine that two people, in college, are arguing with each other about whether or not their teachers remember them. Both of them use different varieties of reasons to support their ideas. Obviously the answer is unknown until they ask their teachers about it. This time, we can lie to them that teachers remember them and we can give them myriad fake reasons to make it convincing. So lying is appropriate the moment avoiding arguments is required.

 

Nevertheless, there is a shortcoming of lying. People always tend to have real friends who do not lie to them so that they can tell everything associated with inner ideas. So it seems that lying is not acceptable when it comes to making friends. Take me for example, one of my principals of making a friend is that he should be honest and not lie to me. I, personally, believe that a man who tells lies is not reliable.

 

In conclusion, the advantages of lying sometimes outweigh its the disadvantages. Hence, I am fully convinced that there are times when lying is acceptable. Only when you have a desire to  bring someone a surprise or avoid argument may you have a chance to tell lies, and it is certain that you will be fond of lying when you achieve your goals this way.
