这两个选项我认为意思上都讲得通，但是为什么选b，表伴随和标转折，这里有对错之分？

原句是一般性独立主格结构，与主句的关系是松散的

（B）是With型独立主格结构，与主句形成紧密的关系。

（D）是表转折的状语从句。

（b）比原句好，而比（d）更接近原句的本意。

我觉得这是一个二选一优选的问题。

原句是一个并列句，就因为代词they用得不当，要用单数代词it指代 the number 。

e是一个主句,ing分词短语做状语，改变了原句的重心。

我觉得这不是绝对的判断方法，是在语法都没问题而且是优选条件下的判断方法。
