以下是引用pushi0014在2008-9-20 21:42:00的发言:
3,

The Achaemenid empire of Persia reached the Indus Valley in the fifth century B.C., bringing the Aramaic script with it, from which was derived both northern and southern Indian alphabets.

(A) the Aramaic script with it, from which was derived both northern and

(B) the Aramaic script with it, and from which deriving both the northern and the

(C) with it the Aramaic script, from which derive both the northern and the

(D) with it the Aramaic script, from which derives both northern and

(E) with it the Aramaic script, and deriving from it both the northern and

此题不知道怎么选

选 C,首先后面from which derive both ... and...是倒装,因为当地点状语短语提前时是可以用倒装的,通过这一点可以先判断主谓一致,

其次,from which作为定语从句引导词应该紧跟其先行词,从句以上可以知道,这个定语从句是修饰Aramaic script,的,因此前面应该是bringing with it the Aramaic script

以下是引用pushi0014在2008-9-20 22:08:00的发言:

The investigations of many psychologists and anthropologists support the generalization of there being little that is a significant difference in the underlying mental processes manifested by people from different cultures.

(A) of there being little that is a significant difference

(B) of there being little that is significantly different

(C) of little that is significantly different

(D) that there is little that is significantly different

(E) that there is little of significant differences

Employment costs rose 2.8 percent in the 12 months that ended in September, slightly less than they did in the year that ended in the previous quarter.

(A) less than they did

(B) less than it did

(C) less than they were

(D) lower than

(E) lower than they were

借此题请教less,fewer,lower,分别修饰什么?

答案是否选A?

通常修饰多少都用less,

lower就是低于的意思。这个数字低于什么什么,这是汉语的表达,不是英语

fewer通常用来修饰people

以下是引用pushi0014在2008-9-20 22:19:00的发言:

Oaks preferring drier ones, pine trees thrive in relatively wet climates.

(A) Oaks preferring drier ones, pine trees thrive in relatively wet climates.

(B) With oaks preferring drier ones, pine trees thrive in relatively wet climates.

(C) Whereas oaks prefer drier ones, with pine trees thriving in relatively wet climates.

(D) Pine trees thrive in relatively wet climates, whereas oaks prefer drier ones.

(E) Pine trees thriving in climates that are relatively wet ones, oaks prefer drier climates.

这里我选的b,答案是d,with表伴随,whereas表转折,可是原文看不出用什么逻辑关系阿,难道就是看这两句话那个意思更顺?

这个题就是对句意的理解,一个是wet,一个是dry,当然是转折意思了,还有就是貌似答案里有whereas是,八成都选他,还有新东方兰皮part II 31题也选带whereas的

以下是引用pushi0014在2008-9-20 22:34:00的发言:

More than 300 rivers drain into Siberia's Lake Baikal, which holds 20 percent of the world's fresh water, more than all the North American Great Lakes combined.

(A) More than 300 rivers drain into Siberia's Lake Baikal, which holds 20 percent of the world's fresh water, more than all the North American Great Lakes combined.

(B) With 20 percent of the world's fresh water, that is more than all the North American Great Lakes combined, Siberia's Lake Baikal has more than 300 rivers that drain into it.

(C) Siberia's Lake Baikal, with more than 300 rivers draining into it, it holds more of the world's fresh water than all that of the North American Great Lakes combined, 20 percent.

(D) While more than 300 rivers drain into it, Siberia's Lake Baikal holds 20 percent of the world's fresh water, which is more than all the North American Great Lakes combined.

(E) More than all the North American Great Lakes combined, Siberia's Lake Baikal, with more than 300 rivers draining into it, holds 20 percent of the world's fresh water.

 答案选a,可是我觉得a的说法比较怪,而且主句不清晰,我选的e

 答案选a,可是我觉得a的说法比较怪,而且主句不清晰,我选的e

a正确,more than all the North American Great Lakes combined,虽然后面最好加个do,但是所有选项里都省略了do,因此a相对最好。

同时我认为more than all the North American Great Lakes combined这句话做的是定语,修饰20 percent of the world's fresh water

e的问题在于,如果把这句话按正常语序就是 Siberia's Lake Baikal is More than all the North American Great Lakes combined。就发现比较级在这里用的是不正确的了

以下是引用pushi0014在2008-9-20 22:40:00的发言:

One report concludes that many schools do not have, or likely to have, enough computers to use them effectively.

(A) or

(B) nor

(C) or are

(D) nor are they

(E) nor are not

这题我选的b答案d,麻烦解释一下

以下,转的,看看有帮助

Both nor and or are Standard after an initial no or not, although or is more frequent today: No running nor [or] shouting is permitted in the corridors. Not wheedling nor [or] threatening could move her. Typically nor is Standard after neither, particularly in Oratorical contexts, Edited English, and other Formal uses, as in Neither her father nor her mother attended her recital. But or can also occur there. Nor is also Standard in other negative statements, as in I didn’t want dessert, nor did I want coffee. Nor meaning than is Nonstandard and regional at best, and many would label it Substandard instead: She’s no brighter nor I am.

The rules for using nor are neither simple nor easy to spell out. When using neither in a balanced construction that negates two parts of a sentence, you must use nor, not or, in the second part. Thus you must say He is neither able nor (not or) willing to go. Similarly, you must use nor (not or) when negating the second of two negative independent clauses: He cannot find anyone now, nor does he expect to find anyone in the future. Jane will never compromise with Bill, nor will Bill compromise with Jane. Note that in these constructions nor causes an inversion of the auxiliary verb and the subject (does he will Bill …). However, when a verb is negated by not or never, and is followed by a negative verb phrase (but not an entire clause), you can use either or or nor: He will not permit the change or (or nor) even consider it. In noun phrases of the type no this or that, or is actually more common than nor: He has no experience or interest (less frequently nor interest) in chemistry. Or is also more common than nor when such a noun phrase, adjective phrase, or adverb phrase is introduced by not: He is not a philosopher or a statesman. They were not rich or happy.
