关于美国金融PHD

关于美国金融PHD，bbs里面，大家都是互相传说，仿佛有志者事竟成，多多尝试，人人都有机会。但实际上机会是非常少的，即使有些牛的人，也不要太乐观，你申请到UMASS之类以上的一二级大学仍然是个小概率事件。美国金融、会计PHD一年大概毕业1500人左右，外国申请者众多，一半是中国人，而名额一个学校往往只有1-3个，学校还会权衡不能都招中国人。所以大家不要再在前80名大学PHD扎堆了，真的可能性不大。我现在准备瞄准些USNews综合100-200名的学校。

Updates: n个月前的老贴啊，当时就是看一些GSU之类大学的学生Profile被打击的，怎么被翻出来的。。。

Very wrong. Actually you should always be reluctant to go to a low-ranking (although there is no official ranking for reserach) program because it will be more painful for you to launch a job after 5 years.

这是来自我认识的一位在美国十几年了的老师，也许是他们那一代去美国的，当时去美国留学的中国人还少，不像现在这么多，所以他们觉得排名低问题不大。不过他是说现在其实很多排名150-200名的学校也是好学校，也不愁当地找工作的。。。

when you say "job", you mean academic positions or just going out to the industry?

can't imagine how a PhD from a 150-200 school find an academic position...maybe in teaching schools?

or, if what you mean is going out to the industry, then why bother doing a PhD? why not just MBA?

MBA costs too much to a common students in China, and many students want to get a more steadily situation in USA, so they pursue a Ph.D. Because If you pursue a master degree in accounting or finance in a not-high-ranking school, it will be hard to find a job in USA.    That's why they pursuing Phd than MBA.

don't expect too much from those teachers in NEW ORIENTAL, usually they don't have any experience in US school, such as some of my friends who worked there. Even if someone really have been in US school, most of them are losers who couldn't find a job in US. I say most, not all.They even never taste the success but are in the classroom to tell people how to success.This also one of the withdraw that New Oriental expand too much and fast.

我现在在申请一些PHD和一些Master，Georgia State U这样的学校，USNEWS本科综合排名进不了前130，金融PHD说前两年录取率5/53，4/44，GPA/GMAT Median 3.69/690，GOD。。。你说是不是要命。。。

GMAT 690也太低了。。 估计不少人用来保底的。。

美国经济现在低谷，很多人都来申phd了。我知道几个统计学硕士，毕业找不到工作的，决定今年申商学院。
