请教一下这一题为什么选D 不选E呢。是否是习惯用法的问题，还是说句子的主要突出重点是前半部分，for doing 在此是为了补充说明 compelling support 呢？ 请高手指教

to do做为动作的目的,逻辑主语应该是该动作的主语,evidence不能classify,所以不能用to do.而应该用for doing介宾短语,这里的classifying是动名词.

非常感谢，to do 动作的目的性更强。与文中逻辑主语不符。

但是很多考题中，往往考 to do 的比较多，for doing 成了干扰项了。看来还得具体问题具体分析噢。

赞同，to do是表主观目的的。大部分题目正确选项to do都是正确选项因为它们都想表现主语的目的性，但这里evidence不可能出于主观而去classify，所以只能强调classify这个动作，而非classify sth这个目的
