这里原文“compared with most spor utility vehicles"引出了下面一段比较的内容，包括"cost less", "get better gas mileage"等等，暗示"carry as many as seven passengers "不应该和上述几个并列，D把这句放在修饰的位置上，似乎更加合理。

反向思考，如果“carry "这句和"cost less"并列，就像A选项中的描述，"compared"插入语的位置为什么是“carry""cost"之间，这很耐人寻味。可以判断，A是不对的，不然”compared"的位置是不定的，容易造成歧义。

我觉得应该选A。D中的carrying已然变为了一个修饰成分了，而在A中carry是和后面的cost，get等平行的。D句子重心有变化。在GMAT尽量保持原句句意不变的原则下，A明显更好。

其实问题在C和D容易引起歧义， A 用了“and，”之后就指明和“cost less” 形成并列跳过了中间的插入语，意思更明确
