先撇开楼主讲的presuming的问题（其实从考试技巧的角度考虑， 4个选项都用了 presuming， 几乎就可以确定B的用法是错了）

A：我觉得can的用法不恰当， 似乎这里不是在说可能性的问题，而是说those traces是否现在还存在。

B： 语序，没有必要倒装； it is presumned 罗嗦

看来也只有C了。

最让我疑惑的是Presuming的用法，

我感觉这里的presuming类似于插入语（可以把它看作如including那样，不用考虑逻辑主语），是从作者的口吻出发的，所以是作者的presume（不确定，我自己猜的）

GWD RC里面的一句（所有的GMAT资料只找到这么一句 ）：

.  AFL president Samuel Gompers, presuming to speak for all workers, had positioned the AFL as a leading opponent of the proposals for national health insurance that were advocated beginning in 1915 by the American Association for Labor Legislation (AALL), an organization dedicated to the study and reform of labor laws. 

mm, 你这个例子好，看来presuming被当作了插入语....

另外那个宾语从句的that，看来就只能默认为能够省略把.....= =; 汗一下.....

至于你说it is presumed 罗嗦，我倒不觉得，这里if....应该是插入语.....;有点类似OG里的it is hoped,我是这么觉得...

当然，那个语序问题我认了...

in the suboridinate clause of english, the verb should stay behind the subject right?

so, it should be,

*** not answered the questions of whether forms merged..... and whether those traces still exsit........

有几个动词的宾语从句是可以省略that 的， 前面忘记说了。

以下是我从CD上摘录的：

tell sb. (that); say(that); expect(that); think(that); predict(that); believe(that);
prove(that); answer(that);suggest(that);inform sb (that);mention(that);note(that);notice(that);write(that);read(that)
这15个动词（可能还有别的），后面的宾语从句的that可省。

well, please bear this in mind, in gmat sc, two principles are highlighted, 1, grammarically correct  2, rhetorically concise.

"presume that.... "is a perfect and very normal,

the omit of that is acceptable and no unusual,

"presuming ......" is desirable in stay behind "whether as parenthesis, since it will cause confusion, should be put into behind the whole "whether" clause........

lastly, nothing wrong with if it is presumed that, but such expression is comparatively redundant, so not desirable.
