答案选D没有疑问，既简洁又清晰。

只是答案在解释B选项时说：they指代不清，既可以向前指代numbers，letters，又可以向后指代companies。

我认为：当指代numbers和letters的时候逻辑上是不合理的，所以they不可能指代numbers和letters，只能去指代companies，所以不会产生歧义。

而B选项的错误在于：

第一、句子重心的改变，awareness这个事情放到了后面，从句里变成了强调the numbers 1 and 2 and the letters A and B have connotations 。

第二、Because这个表示直白原因包含了一个强烈的语气，引入了because改变了原句的语气。原句只是一个伴随。

可以这么说，because,thus,therefore这种都是强语气词，而with,-ed,-ing这种都是属于弱语气词。

当指代numbers和letters的时候逻辑上是不合理的，所以they不可能指代numbers和letters。

我觉得正因为they这种指代不清楚，语法上和逻辑上指代不一致，所以才错啊。

这道题目或许我不用如此死钻牛角尖，因为错误还是比较明显...

与nemo11讲的对代词指代的理解有点偏差，我对代词指代错误情况的想法不是“逻辑与语法不一致则指代错误”，而是“逻辑上无指代或者多指代（歧义指代）”那就是错误的。因而在此我认为逻辑上they只有一个companies指代。

当时看这题目的时候我的想法是：

they的指代情况是：只要当离它近的复数名词都无法逻辑上合理地被指代，它就可以跳跃修饰。numbers和letters都无法逻辑上合理指代，因为numbers和letters不可能去意识到什么东西，所以只有指代companies，所以就没有歧义（而且，如果numbers和letters可以逻辑上合理地被they指代，那么就轮不到companies出场了，因为就近指代,numbers和letters更加近）。

而有歧义的情况总是：在局部逻辑上是合理的，那么they就会产生指代歧义。比如假设,numbers是可以be aware of sth.的，那么就在numbers和companies中间无法抉择they指代谁了，那么就产生了歧义。这样的题目做到过一两个，我下次总结一下发上来。

PS：it和they的指代白勇语法里也不敢妄下定论，书里也只提了查找指代对象的顺序，而没说第一个找到的逻辑合理的一定就是，所以当较远的也可以当做指代对象时，就会有歧义，正如本题里foods和tastes被they指代都不符合逻辑，全句就一个companies能够被指代，所以不会有歧义。

说得有点乱...
