I am trapped, would someone help me out?

[face=Times New Roman]Hello, I think I should first introduce myself. I am jingleking, a newcomer here, who was charmed by both you chasedreamers' accomplishment and courage, and would like very much to become one of you. Yet, before my long journey started, I would appreciate it if you big and experienced guys would give me some suggestions.

Right now, I am a junior student majoring in engineering in Tsinghua University. I have planned to receive further education in US and have already taken GRE test. Yet, as I step deeper and deeper into my present major, I feel more and more convinced that spending a lifetime in the lab is not suitable for me. At the same time, I realize that I have a talent in management as I have excellent spoken English and the will to lead and stimulate people. I am trapped now, would some of you be so kind as to drop me a few lines based on the following questions, which would be of significant importance on my future?

1. I have seen that getting a MBA offer needs working experience. Is it possible for me to be admitted with high GMAT score and excellent GPA of engineer major? Or should I work a couple of years before applying?
2. Which major in management do you think is most proper for me? I have heard that there are quite a lot of them that are suitable for students of engineering major, can you say something about them?
3. If I got the offer of my present major, do you think it is possible for me to shift to management after I went aboard? And, do you think it is worthy to enrolled as a MBA student AFTER I finished my graduate course in the US?
4. When should I take the GMAT test and how long am I expect to prepare for it? (Note:I have already taken GRE test.)

Again, a million thanks[/face][/face]

1. Almost impossible to get into the top MBA program without work experience. So put great effort in your future career first.
2. Can't tell now, it depends on what kind of job you do and what you are interest in.
3. MBA is quite different from a science major and no one could tell if it still worth your investment after you have some work experience. You may do not need it as you could be an excellent leader already at that time.
4. You can take the GMAT anytime you like, it's better that you take it upon your graduation, coz GMAT is valid for 5 years and you at least need some work experience before you can apply. The time for preparing GMAT is hard to predict, it might be easy for you as you mentioned your English is excellent.

真是长江后浪推前浪啊,才大一就有这么多想法了,佩服!

1. you'd better work for a few years before studying mba. especially since you have the will and wit for it, you need to find a job that has financial or management or supply chain or marketing nature.
2. it does not matter what major you are in for mba. but i matters with the work experience you have. the major only helps you pursue a good field of work preparing for mba. to this sense, engineer is not bad.
3. it is possible, but it wastes a little time to achieve the goal. besides, it you do this, you still don't have work experience. it depends on what you want. even if you are very successful with career, you may make a shift with life trace.
4. gre does share something with gmat, but not much. if depends on your english level. I spent 2 months. take one test and see what you get, and locate your position.
the above is only my personal view.

MBA candidates' accademic background varies a lot. I majored in Microbiology but I have been with an multinational companies for over 5 years. Financial Engineering is a promising direction for your future career. FE lasts only one year and doesn't require working experience but have high requirements for Mathematics. Besides, it is easier for graduates of FE to find a well-paid job. You can try Berckley Haas, Cornell and New York Polytech.

Come on. You are still studying now. Don't rush to conclude what you are really interested in. You would better work for a peorid to make sure your life goal. Life in schools is very different from that in the real society. Be patient, time would tell you the answer.

Financial Engineering is promising? that was the case 4 years ago. for a guy without PHD degree (other majors), it is difficult to get a decent job after graduation. it has recovered a little bit this year, but for a foreign guy with one year degree, I don't even think you can get through the six-hour talking during the interview.

my word is: there is no short-cut, you have to pay your due. you have two choice if you are interested in "golden crown" major

1. you are in a very good school, I know McKie, Baan, Microsoft and ML recruite many people from your University. Get into those companies if you can, and work your butt off. apply B-school after two years.

2. go on with your Engineering degree, get into top engineering schools in US. graduate and work for two years, get your green card and get into a good b school either part time or full time

3. go on with your engineering degree, enter a good school in US, you can then getting into second major. most engineering schools have management in Engineering, e.g. stanford, cornell, MIT..... I know many people graduated from those program and went back to China claiming they have MBA-like degree, hehe, they are playing around the concept
