UC Berkeley MFE has a full-tuition student loan program. Here's the link: http://mfe.berkeley.edu/faid.html

Also, Princeton MFin awards The President's Award, a half-tuition waiver to two students each year

Wall Street front office jobs include: investment banking, sales & trading, and structuring. You may find middle and back office professionals working in the forementioned areas, however, the key distinction is, front office professionals deal directly with clients, while middle and back office professionals support front office in non-client-facing issues, i.e. quantitative research and modeling, risk management, operations, etc.

If PhD is your ultimate goal, you can do either of the following and try to make it happen:

1. Shoot for Stanford's MS in Financial Mathematics and Princeton's Master in Finance program. Take loads of PhD-level courses and do well in them. Network the professors for letters of recommendation. Try hard to get a Research Assistant job and help publish papers.

2. Get a Wall Street front office job and perform. Shoot for MBA at Chicago/MIT and take loads of PhD-level courses. Network the professors for letters of recommendation. Try hard to get a Research Assistant job and help publish papers.

Although you do stand a decent chance of getting into 30-50 ranked programs, I would not recommend you to do that. From my observations, two things are most likely to happen upon getting your PhD degree from a second-tier program, one is that you get to be a assistant professor at a third-tier school/program, the other is that you do an MFE/MFin program at a top school in order to get into Wall Street since most of the time Wall Street ONLY recruit PhDs from top programs at top schools.

Based on your academic record you should have no problem getting to Stanford MSFM or NYU MSMF, which in my opinon, is much better than the PhD option. Hope this helps.
