normally, "to do" is  better than "for doing" in describing an action's effect in GMAT.

hmm...yea...usually "to do" is preferrable to "for doing" in GMAT.
however, when it comes down to pick an answer between two choices with only a difference - "to" vs. "for"
I *think* that you have to ask whether the "to" phrase shows the purpose.
如果choose E: New genetic evidence為了classify去提供compelling support
如果choose D: New genetic evidence提供compelling support在classifying方面...
好像D比較好...

个人觉得不能离开题目讨论to do/for doing孰优孰劣的问题；to do表示目的：为了达到什么目的，这里genetic evidence显然不可能自己有目的去classify;而是genetic evidence本身就是classify的support;所以只能选D

选项D,E的区别是修饰问题，support在这里是名词，而to do 只能修饰动词，因此E错，选D
