[讨论]关于other, the other 和another的区别

一直就被这几个词的区别搅得晕头转向的.....

今日特别将此揪出,希望能弄明白!

希望大家多多指点,不吝指教呀!

以下是我的一些看法:

the other:
1\used when there are two people , things, etc to mean the one that is not being used , the one that you do not already have etc.....
2\used to mean all the people , things etc that are not the particular one you are talking about.

我的理解是:the other要不指代两者中的另外一者,要不就是指代其他另外一类人或则事.

eg:

1\Two hypotheses are described, the flaws inherent in one of them are elaborated, and experimental evidence confirming the other is cited.
2\Astronomers waiting for the predicted event found not just one occultation, or eclipse, of the star, but two distinct drops in brightness. One was the predicted occultation, exactly on time. The other, lasting about five seconds, preceded the predicted event by about two minutes.

指代two people , things, etc

而且the other后面可以接单数也可以接复数的形式.


other:
1\used to mention more people or things in addition to the ones you already have or talking about

我的理解是ther指代其他同一类的人或则事物.

eg:
1\Since tryptophan competes with other amino acids for transport across the blood-brain barrier into the brain, insulin secretion indirectly speeds tryptophan’s entry into the central nervous system where, in a special cluster of neurons, it is converted into serotonin.
2\These findings suggest that serotonin has other effects that may be useful indicators of serotonin levels in human beings.

other后面只可以接复数形式.

如果用做比较,只可以用other than.

another
1\used to refer to one more person or things of the same kind;
2\a different person or things or a some other kind or person or things;

我的理解是:another 指的是同一类人或则事物中另外一个

eg:
1\With the use of the term deconstruction we move into another and more complex realm of meaning.
2\Another stipulation requires that a purchaser show the object to a scholar for verification that it is not stolen, but it is a rare academic who is aware of any but the most publicized art thefts.

another后面用单数的形式.

我觉得another 和the other的区别在于:
another指的是一类事物(可以大于两个)中的另外一个;
而the other 指是两者中另外一个.
而another和other的区别在于:
another指的是一类事物(可以大于两个)中的另外一个;
而other指的是同一类事物中的一些事物(必须大于一个)

from one  ......... to another......
or one another
是固定搭配.

在补充两点：
(1) an +other, 错。
(2)经常有others的用法，比如 some of them are red and others are green.
would u like another/some others?

我觉得如果是单独的other,是作为形容词的,没有办法做名词.

所以other不能单独出现.既an + other是错的!

但others却可以表示为名词,既:
other people or things.

eg:
1\Some see it as the opposite of rationality; others view it as an excuse for capriciousness.
2\A limited amount of economic progress was made as some Issei were able to rent or buy farmland directly, while others joined together to form farming corporations.

经常和some 连用.而且others可以连用.

比如OG 的160:
160. While some propose to combat widespread illegal copying of computer programs by attempting to change people's attitudes toward pirating, others by suggesting reducing software prices to decrease the incentive for pirating, and still others by calling for the prosecution of those who copy software illegally.
(A) by suggesting reducing software prices to decrease the incentive for pirating, and still others by calling
(B) by suggesting the reduction of software prices to decrease the incentive for pirating, and still others call
(C) suggest the reduction of software prices for decreasing the incentive for pirating, and still others call
(D) suggest the reduction of software prices to decrease the incentive for pirating, and still others by calling

当出现some other 后面既可以接单数,也可以用复数的形式.

eg:
1\ But suppose a noncharitable organization is owner operated, or, for some other reason, its CEO is not obligated to maximize profits.
2\Some other technical elements would have been adopted to discipline artistic inspiration.

而如果是any other,后面则必须用单数的形式.

eg:
1\ James, more than any other novelist, was aware of the difficulties of novelistic construction.
2\Organs from any other donor can be transplanted without rejection after liver transplantation.

"the other" is used when there are only two things.
i chose one of the two dinner options; my date chose the other.

"another" is used for another of an indefinite number of things.
usually, i'll order one entree and my date will order another, so that we can each try some of both.

"each other" refers to interaction between exactly two things or people.
my date and i usually sit next to each other, rather than across from each other.

"one another" also refers to interaction, but there may be more than two things/people.
the holiday season offers many occasions for people who have not seen one another in many months to reunite.
