Why dont use "being poached" as D does?

It is obvious that the leopard is poached.

个人觉得D的问题有很多：

1。because of后面只能接名词性结构，being poached 不能看成是名词结构吧；而且poached用被动意义上感觉也不妥（这里强调的是poach这个动作本身带来的结果，而不是强调被poached这个行为）；

2。thus是adv,不能代替conj连接句子；

3。making没有使动者，谁在make?

C 不仅run-on，而且意思混乱，应该第一个被干掉的阿；because of也有正确的时候，不是优先度很高的判断标准。个人意见，继续讨论

(B) (D) "making them..." 修飾對象不清。
一般出現Ving 修飾對象通常是作為前置N.之 modifier 或是前面整句話的動作（如OG11 Q43, OG11 Q71），但此處顯然無法如此解釋。排除。
(D) 之比較表達(many more times...)有誤

(C) which 應指代名詞（而緊鄰於前者並非N.，已經是錯誤選項的徵兆了），則根據就近指代原則，其修飾對象為 researchers，邏輯不通。何況(C)的比較表達有誤(more ... compared to)

如此則剩下選項(A)(E)，考慮其表達倍數方式均可，此兩者主要差別在引導"原因"之介詞片語之位置不同。由句意邏輯判斷，此原因是修飾"there are fewer than ..." 而不是修飾 "researchers have determined taat..."，故排除(A)而選(E)。

重新分析了下，说点我的看法。至于A，我是在排除不了了，还请nn们再看看吧！

poaching在这里是名词，和后面的cultivation并列。
A的话肯定是不对的，due to paching and cultivation, leopards减少了，而不是due to poaching and cultivation,researchers 才决定leopards少了，因此A这样的结构翻译下来的意思是因为捕猎和耕种，研究者发现blablabla。。。。

E 中的 their 指代很值得研究

their 并没有向前指代 reseachers, 而是向后指代 leopards
原因是 determined that 后面的成分在同一层次，their 因此优先指指代其主句主语 leopards.
而且根据逻辑判断 poaching and increased cultivation in their native habitats 排除了their 指代 researchers 的可能。
