Private Equity, a common job for MBAs?

第一次来，我不是很熟悉这里的情况，但是还是忍不住想问一下。I have a friend who's in private equity.
Working as an analyst for just over a year. Personally I'm not in the
finance industry so I'm very dumb with my questions. I was wondering if
this is a common job for MBA candidates? I've done some browsing
through some posts. Many people are in consulting, auditing, etc... But
I haven't seen anyone with private equity background. Can anybody tell
me more about private equity? I read on the internet that many MBAs are
in hot pursuit of private equity, topping even investment banking. Is
this true?

Any insights will be greatly appreciated.

1.  Depend on which department of PE shop he/she is working at.  Front desk doing deals directly? or backoffice doing supporting/operational work ?

2.  It is pretty common for PE ppl to get a MBA.  There haven't been alot of then in the past couple years simply because the PE market was so hot.  A front desk associate in a major PE shop can make over 300+ k a year, it is pretty tough to give up that much salary.

But with the market slowing dramatically, there will be more of them this year.
