SOM现在的endowment是5.75亿美金，每年招180人。Wharton的endowment是6.91亿，但他们规模是这里的4倍多。其实学校花钱的地方还是很多的，比如2011年将要建成的全新的商学院大楼，就要耗资大概1.5-2亿美金。学校这两年挖老师，也要花不少钱的。比如这里06年把HBS一个资深case writer挖过来，做这里新成立的case research team的director，自己开始写case，这些都是要花钱的。所以SOM给学生的奖学金比较少。我觉得并不是学校没钱，而是学校把钱用到别的地方去了。
我和一个老教授聊天，他说Yale的校长Richard Levin对SOM极力支持，他多次和YALE的校友说，你们一定要支持SOM的发展，所以不少YALE校友都愿意捐钱。校长对学院的支持是非常重要的。在雄厚财力的保证下，任何事情都是有可能做好的。就好比yale校长现在提出要花14年时间，把工学院建成第一流的，只要学校愿意花钱和别的资源，我相信肯定会有大飞跃。
另挖，今年1月我们院长挖了一个他的大学同学过来，做这里的associate dean，负责搞钱。此人背景非常强。 I am delighted to be able to announce that Joel Getz will be joining the Yale School of Management on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 as Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations. Joel comes to SOM from the William J. Clinton Foundation in New York, where he served as Director of Development for former President Bill Clinton’s worldwide charitable, educational, and economic development initiatives. Joel was instrumental in creating a formal development operation for the Clinton Foundation, which raises in excess of $135 million annually. Prior to his work with the Clinton Foundation, Joel was President of the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, working with Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, deputy mayors, and NYC agency commissioners, as well as a 50-member board of top CEOs, financiers, philanthropists and community leaders, to plan, prioritize and implement fundraising initiatives to support civic improvements in the City of New York. After stepping down as President of the Fund, Joel was asked by Mayor Bloomberg to continue as a member of the organization’s board. Joel’s additional previous work experience includes university fundraising at Stanford University, where he was associate director of The Stanford Fund and then a major gifts officer, both for the university and for the Graduate School of Business, where he covered the Silicon Valley Region. His record of success was such that he was identified as one of the “most gifted” fundraising professionals on the Stanford development staff. He also has an entrepreneurial bent: from 1990 to 1997 he was the President and Co-Founder of Rim Pacific, a manufacturing and distribution firm focusing on art reproductions.
