Why people attend college?

People attend college or university for many different reasons (for example, new experiences, career preparation, increased knowledge). Why do you think people attend college or university? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

My essay

Most of students in our country choose attend college or university after graduated from high school if they have the opportunity to do so. This is also my choice. Why most of us prefer going to college than directly entering the work force after graduation from high school? As far as I am concerned, the reason is mainly due to three parts.

First of all, students who graduated from college or university may become more competitive and have more opportunities to obtain a better job with a higher pay. Employers always want to hire more sophisticated staff to make their company operate more effectively to achieve more proceeds. In most of times, it is really very hard to determine who have the abilities, because there is no obvious acknowledged benchmark. Higher education, in most circumstances, can be one of the crucial benchmarks. Suppose you are the employer facing two candidates who have the almost the same background but one with a higher education. Which one would you prefer?

Moreover, attending college or university, students can know and make more friends that can be a large part of fortune in rest of their life. They can be not only resources in your career life but also friends who can help you solve personal problems. Because people with higher education always are considered as the persons have more possibility to achieve success. 

Furthermore, people can obtain knowledge in a systematic way and learn other things during college study. Of cause, attending college is not the only method to gain higher education, but college have abundant of resources and students can gain knowledge in a more systematic way. In addition, people can learn many things other than knowledge, such as presentation skill, ability of self study and other soft skills which might be more significant than the knowledge than people mastered in college.

All in all, attending college may be the best way for most students for their future life. No one can deny the truth that higher education probably always played a key role in determining one's opportunities for success. Going to college or university is the best way to obtain higher education in most of circumstances.
