Tucson is a very pretty city, with mountains and deserts nearby.  However, safety is a big issue due to problems associated with illegal immigrants. Professor Dan Dhaliwal ( I think that he is still the chairman) is known to take good care of his students.   I am not sure about Masters' students.
University of Arizona today has a very strong accounting Ph.D. program. I know this from a very famous accounting professor of U. of Chicago who is from UA.  In my humble opinion, UA is currently even more desirable than Michigan's accounting Ph.D. program.  Dhaliwal is the key reason.  In term of accounting program, UA and GWU are not in the same leagues.
In short, UA is well known in US (even in my Chicago neighborhood). Don't want to comment about GWU. As a tourist, I will pick DC over Tucson or the Valley (except in winter).
Good luck!!  By the way, ASU's AIS program is also very well known.

Pay attention to the program LZ will go to, it is master of accounting not PhD. Most of programs in B-school are professional education programs not academic ones. Landing jobs always first concern for the b-school students. How can you image HR managers will care about the school research ability and certain so-called famous professor in that school? They really do not give a shit.
Even overall ranking 100 school can be well-known in States, how come GW can not (its overall ranking much higher)? |
