I have also been struggling this issue. I agree that if you believe this is your dream, go chase it. There is nothing to lose. Another point that I want to raise is that you might want to consider your post MBA job landing. An Ph.D+ MBA is a great plus, but without any real work expeireince, it would be hard for you to go to consulting industry later on, considering you will be competing with similar technical person who has MBA+experience from big pharma Basic research should be ok to land in a job in big research companies, lots of big pharma have fundemental resarch division just like acdemia. So besides trying for consulting right away and applying MBA, you may want to research the big companies as well. If your final goal is to get in a top management consulting firm, 'd better put some big names on your resume, great B-school, big company, they look for big names and your track record. If your goal is something else, then it is another story. Whatever you decide, best luck. |
