I actually have a few questions about the MAS program. As I still have a few days to make up my mind, I want to know that I am making the right decision if I do decide to go.

1) How has the placement record been for international students in the MAS program? it sounds as if they receive no support at all from the directors while the MSA students receive a lot of support.
2) Are they really less prepared for the CPA exam to the point that the CPA prep course alone is insufficient to allow them to acquire the knowledge needed to pass the exams?
3) is it possible for MAS students to attend MSA events (considering we are international students too)?

I realize you are a MSA student, but I bet you know the situation inside out at that school. Your input is greatly appreciated.

1) Sorry i do not know the placement for MAS. I do not know what kind of support they have. But i am sure they do have some.

2)as most of the mas students have had the US GAAP accounting background already, the mas program does not repeat that. the CPA review course alone covers enough for cpa exams. but for msa program, the cpa review is the second time, it helps you be more familiar with the material.

3)no so much possibilities, to my knowledge.

会计学系是UIUC商学院的王牌系，也是美国主要的会计学研究和教育中心，一直雄居全美第一名，学术声誉为世界级。

会计学专业对数学能力要求比较高，至少比MBA的要求高，而且越学得深要求越高。读会计学博士没有过硬的数学背景是拿不下来的。在会计学研究中，除了采用传统的实证研究和规范研究两大类研究方法外，还采用经济学的相关理论分析会计行为和会计现象，甚至哲学、逻辑学、心理学和法学等多学科交叉研究。

UIUC 1921年开始招收会计学硕士研究生，会计理论的一代宗师利特尔顿(Ananias C. Littleton)教授开设了第一门研究生课程，标志着该校会计学研究生教育的开始。1938年利特尔顿教授在UIUC创建了美国历史上第一个会计学博士点，从此开始了该校历史悠久、成绩卓著的会计学博士教育。截至1996年，该校已经培养了322名会计学博士，其数量之多、质量之高，堪称全美乃至全球第一。UIUC会计学系以其在会计教育方面的奠基之功和创新之举、会计理论方面的开拓精神和卓著成就、浓郁的研究气氛和严谨的治学态度而饮誉全球，被认为是美国乃至世界杰出会计学家的摇篮，连年在全美大学会计学系排名中名列第一。

UIUC会计学系有着辉煌的历史。在全球从1950年到1990年进入会计名人堂(Accounting Hall of Fame， 会计界最高荣誉， http://fisher.osu.edu/acctmis/hall/)的十八名会计学者中，有五人是UIUC教授(Hiram T. Scovill， Ananias C. Littleton，Lloyd Morey，Robert K. Mautz和Norton M. Bedford)， 1998年Arthur Wyatt教授也入选会计名人堂、为UIUC再夺此殊荣。利特尔顿教授的《会计理论结构》是会计理论方面人人必读的经典名著。他和佩顿(W. A. Paton)合作发表的《公司会计准则绪论》，在收益计量上强调损益表，突出了收益与成本的匹配，对会计理论和实务产生了深远的影响。又比如，审计理论大师莫茨(Robert K. Mautz)从60年代起已确立了在美国审计界和会计界的 重要地位。1958年─1961年，担任《会计评论》主编。1965年，担任美国会计 学会会长和美国注册会计师协会顾问。1966年起又连续担任审计总署顾问达11 年。1971年─1977年，担任成本会计标准委员会和财务会计标准咨询委员会委 员。又任美国会计学会《会计地平线》主编。他的研究领域广泛，不仅涉及会计学和审计学，而且涉及管理科学。他的代表作包括《审计理论结构》、被认为是世界上第一部将审计理论作为一门独立的学科加以论述的的重要著作，受 到世界审计领域的广泛瞩目。

目前在UIUC会计学系执教的著名会计学家很多，例如编著布莱克韦尔会计学百科辞典的A. Rashad Abdel-khalik， 还有论文被引用率颇高的Theodore Sougiannis，Paul J. Beck，Clifton E. Brown， Rachel Schwartz，Ira Solomon， Andrew D. Bailey, Jr. 等等。

我国会计学界的许多著名学者曾赴UIUC进行学术研究，包括会计学名列全国第一、为我国培养了1/3 的会计学博士的厦门大学的许多教授。例如余绪缨(我国管理会计的开拓者和奠基人，厦门大学)，曲晓辉(我国第一位会计学女博士，第一位会计学博士生女导师，厦门大学会计发展研究中心主任)等等。还有李若山(我国第一位审计学博士，复旦大学财务金融系主任)，于增彪(清华大学会计研究所)等其他学者。
