找到答案了,对于which的解释应该这个才是合理的:

this sentence doesn't just use "which" but "after which" - this is slightly different than plain "which." With "after which," you are referring to a period of time - one thing or event taking place after another thing or event. And that's also what's going on in this sentence.

如果which指代impact，会造成语法上surface broke apart这个动作与fragment rejioned这个动作前后关系不清楚，而逻辑上应该是fragment rejioned在surface broke apart之后。。或许有点没表达清楚...

那是不是 B 改成 repeated impacts on the surface broke it apart, after which the fragments rejoined through 也是对的？

本來我被版主說服了...後來, 還是太stubborn去再想, 之後去ManhattanGMAT那裡再問了一下, 那裡的instructors還是覺得這個which不是有任何特別的用法, 這個which是指代impacts.
版主所quote的那句explanation是ManhattanGMAT instructor Stacey說的.  後來我再問這是否代表which沒用指代一個concrete noun, 她跟instructor Ron都回了說是指代impacts.
