Some students like classes where teachers lecture (do all of the talking) in class. Other students prefer classes where the students do some of the talking. Which type of class do you prefer? Give specific reasons and details to support your choice. I think the latter one is better for students to really learn from the class.I'm going to further elucidate my reasons in the following paragraphies. Lecture mode is very common is today's college.I do acknowledge that lecture mode has its own merits such as high efficient, more content and so on.But lecture mode is a kind of teaching method which students are less involved in the classes.A long lecture is usually quite boring to most of us and we are easy to feel sleepy if the professor just keeps talking about the complex theory without asking students to answer questions. Therefore, the quality of class is greatly reduced because of none interaction. Compared with lecture mode,if students are given opportunities to talk in the classes, they are more likely to dedicate into the classes. It's not difficult to understand that when people are focus on doing something, their brains are working positively and the effect of study is largely improved due to their involvement. What's more, class discussion can make the professor be aware of where is the point that students still don't fully comprehend so as to provide a more detail explanation in time. For this,I can prove it with my own experience. When I was in middle school,my chemistry teacher is the sort of teachers who keep talking through the whole class. Most of time,we can hardly follow her because she moved from one topic to another too fast. And as a result, many of my classmates regarded chemistry class as a sleeping time.Later,I offer her a suggestion that maybe she should slow down her speed and bring more interaction into the classes. She toke my advice, and from then on,the average score on chemistry of everyone in my class made a big progression.I believe all of these is the consequence of students involvement. With more student discussion, classes became much more lively and few students felt sleepy again. All of the above is the reasons why I think students involvement is superior to lecture.More interaction produces a better outcome. |
