key is A, why B is wrong?

3. the nineteenth-century Russian composers known as " The Five" were united by their holding an ideal of a national music based on folk melodies and themes

(B) had as their uniting ideal
(C) united each other with
(D) united based on
(E) were united with

key is D, what part here does "based on" act as?  I think it's unsuitable to use two " based on" here, and "based on" looks like a passive tense.

E 是 as they would disciplin their daughter 的省略。需要用would因为有虚拟语气。

我也觉得有点怪，为什么用两个based on。但是这个passive tense没什么错啊。

2. 我觉得和og上取消定婚的那个题挺象,不知道这个是不是也因为中间夹了一个Aristotle而使得句子没有说明是谁neglect?

3. 我也错了,不过想了一下,第二个based on 才是句子真正的谓语,第一个based on是作定语的.不知道对不对?

neglected 与accepted是并列的动作，而B中to neglect不能与后面的 and accepted平行。
1, E 是 as they would disciplin their daughter 的省略。需要用would因为有虚拟语气。

while for the first one, I know "advocated" should followed by "original form of verb", here, the first part eliminate "should", and for the second part, do you mean if we omit discipline, we should complement "should" or "would"?
