A Wharton friend once told me, if you cannot get to the top-5 MBA program, don't do it.  MBA is all about the brand name of B-school.  I would suggest you switching to some other programs, like M.S. in financial engineering, and then apply for a very good MBA program when you are ready.

Many people without Top 5 MBA degrees are making millions of dollars a year, too.

One person's success doesn't justify the argument that "if you cannot get to the top-5 MBA program, don't do it".

An MBA from Top20 b-schools (or Top30, Top50) can still open many doors for career switchers, though not as many as Top5.

I agree with you but I was quoting what I heard.  I will leave it for your own interpretation.  It could be motivational or it could be devasting.  For me, the words are better than a cup of coffee when I am working on those silly essays.
