Time: 29:24 Word Count: 596 Money-Oriented or Joy-Oriented
In the evolution of history, the most prevalent activity human beings involved in is probably working. People work for multiple reasons. Some are motivated by the decent salary they can earn through working, while others are satisfied with the sense of self-fulfillment and comfortable living they can attain through working. Any of the two standpoints have their own reasonable arguments, and let's have a look at each of them before I display my preference.
There is no denying that the fundamental motivation for work is money. The time when talking about money is considered as sinister and evil has already gone. In modern society, people even dare to boast about their earnings in public, which, from their perspective, is a kind of honor. They even label themselves as millionaires or billionaires. Money, for them, is an essential propelling force driving them to work all the time. On the other hand, no matter how appealing a post might seem to be, with poor salary, they will not even cast a glare on it. This kind of psychology is not difficult understand. They are driven by money either out of the requirement of living or out of pure vain. As a matter of fact, money-oriented group is even displaying a trend of dominancy among the whole population.
Standing as the opposite of money-oriented group is the joy-oriented one. This group of people works equally hard as the former one, but out of different purpose. For them, money is not the No.1 goal they are aiming at. What is more inviting to them is the sense of self-fulfillment they can attain through working. From their perspective, a little sum of money that can earn them a comfortable living will do. I deem that this is attributable to their different personalities and values from the former group. As it is called, the joy-oriented group attaches more importance to the pure joy and satisfaction of mental world. Although this group is not the majority, they are dominant the Bohemian bourgeois society in the modern world. Different choice has everything to do with different personalities. According to my character, I tend to stand with the latter group. That is to say, I prefer to work not for the sum of money I can earn, but for the pure happiness I can get through the work. I do not care at all how much money I would have to be paid. As long as I will not go for hunger, I will decisively choose the career I truly love. The reason is not difficult to explain: I find the excitement and happiness in the inner heart when dealing with the occupation I truly love is the most desirable. On the contrary, although I probably am capable of earning 8,000 RMB being as a simultaneous interpreter for international conferences, I will never choose to do so because I just do not like it. For me, comfortable living, with a happy family, a circle of close friends, and a job that I truly love, is way too enough.
There is no right or wrong in this question. People tend to make choice according to their respective personalities and value of the world. Therefore, people that are capable of earning a billion in one year are not necessarily be paid a homage like a god, and at the same time, people that are satisfactory of a merely small amount of monthly salary should not be legitimately looked down upon. All members of the society, no matter what their values are, should be equally viewed with respect.
