174 Every generation of people is different in important ways. How is your generation different from your parents' generation? Use specific reasons and examples to explain your answer.
As technologies advance and economic grows, most people in my generation have better chances to go to school to gain more knowledge; hence, they have been educated to be open-minded for new creations compared with their parents in several ways. The major differences are the ways they think about the diversities of jobs, attitudes toward new concepts and devices and methods they use to gain and exchange information.
First of all, young men, whether they have been well-educated or not, are more willing to take a chance to choose different jobs while parents are usually conservative and they prefer their children to choose will-paid decent jobs. More and more young men are trying to start up their own careers to fulfill their goals while most parents prefer their sons and daughter to find stable jobs after they graduate from schools. Parents usually expect their children to be doctors, lawyers, judges, accountants, government officials, or even engineers. On the contrary, young men tend to be courageous to find a different way out. Some may start their business on Internet; some may try to take part in some contests to gain publicity; some may publish stories on Internet and turn to be famous writers; and some may make their living by playing computer games. For instance, people who are good at playing online games may be hired by game companies to test new computer games. Parents can never image careers of this sore in their era. People nowadays have more career choices than their parents.
In addition, people of my generation are more open to accept novelties and new concepts. Take Internet as an example. People of my parents’ generation prefer to go to stores for shopping while the young people are accustomed to shopping online. Another new idea is credit cards. To some elder’s minds, a plastic card can never stand for money so they prefer to pay by cash. On the contrary, most of my friends pay by credit cards as they appreciate the convenience of the small plastic card.
Finally, as the technologies advance, young men of my generation usually access new information through Internet. They usually surf on Internet to read news, find the information they wish, share files and films, and create blogs to share their happiness with others. If is more economical, fast and efficient to get the information through Internet. On the contrary, people of my parents’ generation depend on printed media, such as newspapers and magazines, to gain the latest information. They also communicate with their friends by phone or letter while most of my friends communicate each other instantly via MSN, Skype or e-mail.
In conclusion, the major differences are caused by knowledge gap. Some of the technologies may bring more benefits for the elderly if they are willing to learn and accept them. Although some people may feel against these advances, and prone to their previous life style, it may be advantageous for people of parents’ generation to adopt new things and keep up with the times. .
