我个人觉得倒也不见得，去AoM除了学术目的外，还有一个主要目的是培养人脉，早点和各校教授接触，对以后找教职说不定也可以打下基础啊

PS. May I advertise an event here? If whoever is about to start your hD program or just finished the first year, welcome to attend the NDSC (New Doctoral Student Consortium)-- it's going to be a fun and worthwhile experience! It will be held before AOM regular meetings, and should be close to main conference hotels. You will get tons of useful informaiton and true stories regarding PhD life there. I went to NDSC myself in my first summer and found it very helpful. Looking forward to seeing you there!!
