Why go to university?
People never remain suspicious of the point that more and more people choose to attend college or university but not to go into the society indirectly after graduating from the high school. But why so many people coincidently make the former choice? For most of the time, we are always on the arduous journey in seeking for the answer of this question. In fact, a number of factors give rise to such a phenomenon. From my personal angle alone, most students attend university mainly in order to increase knowledge, accumulate experience, while some others just go adrift because of their purposelessness.
For one thing, college is a place where students can gain more practical knowledge to solve the realistic problems. Usually in the high schools, the curriculums which are given to the students are far from providing some practical enough skills, for they are generally fundamental subjects, such as math, physic, chemistry and so on. For instance, when my brother was in college, he majored in electronic engineering. He had learned a little bit about that during the high school, but in college he studied it in depth. In addition, he also learned how to deal with life problems with further knowledge and available skills. Consequently, most people attend college or university chiefly in order to increase their knowledge. For another, it is too young to set foot in society which is excessively complex for a high-school graduate. Most of the high-school graduates are around 20 years old. They are young, smart, imaginative and adventurous. At this age, people never fail to be attracted by novelty. Equally, they always failed to distinct the two things, novelty and jeopardy (danger). As a result, they always push themselves into danger because of their curiosity. I still remember the news before long that a team of high-school graduator was deceived by an employee who refused to pay for their salaries. So high school graduates need to accumulate more experience before they attend the society. The university is exactly a small and simple society which can provide an environment as transition. That's also an important reason why students go to university.
What is more, some people who attend college aim for nothing. They just do it as the others do. Future is a mystery for everybody. Some wise people quickly decide what to do next while some others not. These people have no destination and ideal so that they follow the others. As a result, to some extent, these students feel obliged to go on to university, for they don’t know what else to do if they don't (beside this).
Therefor, all these reasons lead to the phenomenon. Generally speaking, it is an important step during study to attend college. It is a superb place where we can increase our knowledge and accumulate experience. That’s why more and more people join the team of college students. |
