我错误的选择了D，做题的时候概念很模糊，觉得每个选项都拿不准。没有选A的原因是觉得”its numbers are now five times greater than"后面少了什么，感觉不能直接跟"when...."

A中”its numbers are now five times greater than"后面为什么直接跟时间呢？这里我是什么语法知识点不足啊？

省略了 than (its numbers were) 。注意一般后面的时间用时间状语从句的话，不补出主语和助动词是可以的，因为不会有歧义

但是当时间为 X years ago时就要补出，因为X years是个名词会有比较对象歧异
