5.    The Forbidden City in Beijing, from which the emperors ruled by heavenly mandate, was a site which a commoner or foreigner could not enter without any permission, on pain of death.
(A) which a commoner or foreigner could not enter without any permission,
(B) which a commoner or foreigner could enter without any permission only
(C) which no commoner or foreigner could enter without permission,
(D) which, without permission, neither commoner or foreigner could only enter,
(E) which, to enter without permission, neither commoner or foreigner could do,
是不是a commoner or foreigner 这个a 不可以两个N公用啊?

15.    In 1933 the rubber, clothing, and shipbuilding industries put into effect a six-hour workday, believing it a seeming permanent accommodation rather than a temporary expedient for what many observers thought was an economy made overproductive by advances in technology.
(A) believing it a seeming permanent accommodation rather than a temporary expedient for what many observers thought was
(B) believing it a seeming permanent accommodation instead of a temporary expedient for what many observers thought was
(C) believing that it was not a temporary expedient but a seeming permanent accommodation to what many observers thought of as a
(D) not as a temporary expedient but as a seemingly permanent accommodation to what many observers thought was
(E) not as a temporary expedient but believing it a seemingly permanent accommodation for what many observers thought
答案D 。请问后面这个for what many observers thought was n economy made overproductive by advances in technology好象从意思上看应该是修temporary expedient 的吧?

without any permission 这里的否定和any一般用no来代替,更简洁。

for what many observers thought was an economy made overproductive by advances in technology从逻辑意思应该是修饰 seemingly permanent accommodation 。

a seemingly permanent accommodation (to what many observers thought )was

as 后不是句子,是 a seemingly permanent accommodation 一个名词词组

to what many observers thought was an economy made overproductive by advances in technology 修饰 accomodation,是补语

正常语序为 many observers thought (that) what was an economy (that was) made overproductive by advances in technology

NO    5,    isn't    B    better    than    C.    choice    C    is    not    logical,    how    can    '    on    pain    of    death'    be    explained?    my    answer    is    :    nobody    can    enter    the    forbidden    city    without    permission    except    that    they    risk    pain    of    death.    so    B    is    a    good    answer.    what    do    u    think

Sb rule on pain of    death ,by heavenly mandate

而且不是mandate on pain of death, 我查不出这样的用法

5、C

The    Forbidden    City    in    Beijing,    from    which    the    emperors    ruled    by    heavenly    mandate,

was    a    site    which    no    commoner    or    foreigner    could    enter    without    permission,on    pain

    of    death.
这里on pain of death修饰no    commoner    or    foreigner    could    enter    without    permission

longman:

on/under pain of death
at the risk of being killed as punishment, if you do not obey
Communist activity was prohibited on pain of death.
