Do you think when recruiting overseas students, B school like columbia prefer to recruit students who have VC/IB background (higher proportion), as upon graduation, these guys could be more probable to find jobs in WALL STREET or IB/VC in other countries. Then the high salary of these industries could make the statistics data look better!(say, median salary,$100000) It is really case-sensitive. Let's look at the numbers first: We have around 65 students for each Cluster (there are 8 Clusters for Fall-term and 3 Clusters for J-Term). Not too many students in my Cluster are former IBankers (domestic AND int'l students incl.) and 7 worked for investment banks prior to Columbia. So you can do the math: 7/63 = 11%. Out of these 7, three worked in overseas IBs. * But there are more students who worked in the financial service industry prior to school. For VC background, there are two in my Cluster. Therefore, I wouldn't say that Columbia "prefers" to recruit students who have VC/IB backgrounds - pls. refer to the above. Matter-of-factly though, Columbia is doing great sending its students to IBs. Columbia, Wharton and HBS are the three biggest "feeder" for Goldman Sachs and Columbia leads the other two slightly in terms of # of graduates landing a full-time offer with Golman. Again, I wouldn't over-think "what background the school prefer", since it is TOO LATE for you to change your background right? And, given the number above, I guess you shouldn't worry about it too much anyway. |
