狂看新概念之后的第一篇 请各位拍转谢谢 Why do you think people attend college?
Advanced education, or university instruction, has become the key word of our time. A young without university education, as far as I am concerned, is a poor sufferer of adverse environments who is deprived of one of the greatest civilized privileges. Numerous reasons abound as for why people attend university. Among which two are crucial: the opportunity to specialize in one subject for a long period of time; and the need of a severely competitive society.
For large multitudes of people, the main reason they come to college lies in the precious chance to concentrate on one field. In high school, students are stuffed with knowledge of various sorts—be it math, physics, chemistry, or biology. Yet in universities, they can specialize in one area—the one they like the best, invariably. Also, the knowledge taught in university is far more professional than that of high school. In this way, a student can enjoy the learning course or be absorbed in the area and, more often than not, make remarkable improvement in a short time. Take the example of my friend Bob, who has been an enthusiastic of psychology since childhood but has never managed to spend sufficient time on it. After attending college, Bob found surprisingly that he can finally stay in library reading books of psychology the whole day. Physically tired as he might be, Bob has been mentally energetic day in day out in that he can get rid of various assignments and study what he likes.
To such a paramount reason another must be added. The ever increasing pressure and competition of modern society call for employees with advanced expertise. Generally, people with advanced education tend to be of more capacity than those who without. Nothing can be compared, from my perspective, with a job hunter possessing a bachelor’s degree to show his/her qualification for a certain position. Imagine that two individuals with similar working experiences, one graduated from university and the other did not, both apply for researcher in a biological company. There is no gainsaying that the officers of this company will choose the former one. Consequently, to fulfill the demand of the society and to lead in the future match, a person has to study in a university.
All in all, people attend college for many reasons such as the time university offers to specialize in one subject and the competitive situation of our society. |
