当然不行。ｔｈｕｓ是副词，“所以”“因此”，＝therfore。上句中那个位置的词应该是可以做“remains”的宾语的东西，也就是可以做表语的东西。"in this way"，介词短语，可以做表语。副词不能直接做表语。
