We all work or will work in our jobs with many different kinds of people. In your opinion, what are some important characteristics of a co-worker (someone you work closely with)? Use reasons and specific examples to explain why these characteristics are important.

 

People in different areas are doing different job everyday. Most of them spend more time with their co-workers than they do with their family. Thus, it is very important to work with people who can get on well with. To me, a good co-worker should have some characteristics such as optimism, teamwork spirit and fast execution.

 

In my opinion, I’d like to work with people who are always optimistic. There is no doubt we have to face different and though situations during work. Sometimes the difficulty of the task is much more than that we can handle. In this case, a co-worker who is always optimistic and has the strong confidence of accomplishing task will not only contribute to the success of task, but also encourage others in the team. This point is very important because one’s attitude toward the work can easily influence others. If most of the co-workers in the team fear of challenging difficulties, the task can never achieve its goal.

 

Another indispensable characteristic is teamwork spirit. Although the personal working ability is essential to the success of the job, co-workers should have the spirit of cooperation. In the company I am working for, you can’t find any kind of project which was charged by one person. The most important issue for a project, especially a big one, is teamwork. Every team member takes charge each part of the whole project, then they exchange their ideas and communicate the relationship between each part. Also they give each other suggestions in different aspects and help to find each other’s problems. Only under this circumstance, can one project make a success and reach its goal.

 

In addition, I hope my co-worker is an efficient person. He/She should have not only the ability to complete the task perfectly but also the sense of fast execution once the task was assigned to the team. If he/she can understand the task and give the response quickly, it’s a quite ease for the leader and other members to work with him/her. Thus, the sense of fast execution is also important to the co-workers.

 

Although there are some other good characteristics a good co-worker should have, optimism, teamwork spirit and fast execution are the most important as I’m concerned. Only with these characteristics can the co-worker contribute to the team and make the job works well.
