People have a large number of reasons why they attend college or university. As far as I am concerned, people attend college or university mostly in order to prepare for job, learn to self-study and broad their horizon.

To begin with, career preparation has become a more and more important reason for people to attend university. Nowadays, it is indeed difficult for one to find a decent job unless he or she has systematic knowledge about a certain field. Fortunately, university or college provides an ideal platform for people to learn specific knowledge about an area. For example, during the process of learning computer science, people will get to know the theory of computers, the function of computers and the application of computers. Equipped with this knowledge, people will turn out to be more competitive in finding a job in computer area.

Besides the specific knowledge that is useful in applying for a job, developing the capability of self-study is also a significant reason that people attend college or university. As we know, our society changed dramatically during the past century. So does now and future. The knowledge we master today would become out of date tomorrow. Hardly can one survive in this world if he or she cannot learn new knowledge by himself or herself. In university or college, teachers would not impart students everything, on the contrary, they would demand students to do some researches, to search some information and to make some presentations which help students to cultivate the capability of self-learning. Therefore, when students step into the society, they tend to adapt themself to the society better.

Last but not least, people attend college or university so as to enrich their experience. University or college, quite different from high school, enrolls students all over a nation or even the world, so one would have the chance to communicate and make friends with those who come from different regions and have distinctive background. By communication, one would know various kinds of culture, custom, history and personal value. All of these things would have a great impact on their future development.

In sum, career preparation, self-learning and experience should be the main reasons why people attend college or unversity.
