Also, a method of protecting would be more idiomatic than a method to protect in A or a method protecting in B. In B and D, as is incorrect; also, a protection in D has no noun for which it can logically substitute. Choice E is incomplete; used to protect would have been acceptable.

根据LONGMAN的解释，potential for sth 但是没有例句说明可以接doing结构，

但是又查了牛津7th高级字典，很清楚的说明当potential做名词时，有potential for/ for doing sth的用法。

EG：the potential for change.
