从句意来看，XXX cannot be a type，所以只有be of type满足要求，排除A，B，D；

再看C，one they believe that it is of a type previously unknown to science，比较wordy，且it又有指代one的嫌疑，也排除；

    

E：one they believe to be a type previously unknown to science，如果按照nymph的说法that是被省略了，那么补出that后也不成句子啊
