FYI the prices after special MIT student discount. You can compare w/ domestic prices. http://web.mit.edu/ist/topics/hardware/laptops.html My suggestions: 1 For male student: IBM/Lenovo T60. The design is perfect. I've used Toshiba SXXX,Dell C600/D610 and IBM T21/T60/X60. T60 is fxxking much more expensive than its peers but all money you paid will be rewarded. I don't think there will be better design in few years. It's a peak of industial design. 2 For female student: IBM/Lenovo X60. If you can bear the small screen, especially after hours of glaring at it, that'll be a good choice. The good thing is that it can be put into your handbag. If you can have a look of how much time my female colleagues have spent to find a handbag to carry their T60, and how much suffer in carrying them afterward, you'll understand what I mean. 3 For rich student (That does not mean that the rich is neither male nor female, you know...): IBM/Lenovo T60P. You can consider it an enhanced version of T60. Generally speaking, it's the best computer you can get. Very powerful, the light will be dimmed when T60P power on. Heavier than T60 but considering you are so rich, it'll not be too extravagant for you to buy a car and hire a servant to carry it for you. a
