想问一下可否这样理解：JP是做了18年的主席，不是做了18年的前主席，所以不要former？

这题俺也错了，而且就是看不明白FINDJUHL的解释'the former chair 和
18 consecutive years 意思有重复', 你可真实一语道破天机。的确former chair可不是一个官衔，也没有18年的任期！

我觉得还是看平行，还有逻辑：

你看看这两个部分： board指的是一个board,都是为这个board干活，那么后面没有former前面也不该有啊，，，

选A的意思就是：以做了18年的前任主席的身份参加了。。。。。

选E：以做了18年主席的身份，他参加了N多的会议。

why not A? Won't the meaning will change with E?

A is incorrect because "former" is not needed with Joan attended after the coma.

In this question, the qualifier "former" is redundant because the
question does not focus on "when" (i.e the point in time) she was the
chair. The focus is on the point that when she was chair she attended
400 meetings and ...



So as the point in time is not relevant, the qualifier former is unnecessary.

不知道上面这三个老外的对话对大家看待这个former 有没有启发，

Please note that the use of the word former cannot be correct here. Why!!

because paul attended meetings and reviewed applications not as the former chair. no one attends meetings/reviews applications as former chair. but only if he was the sitting chair at the time the meetings were held.

so only choice E conveys that message.

这个老外的解释能不能是终结了
