Admitted by CMU plus a little scholarship

Admitted by Tepper, Carnegie Mellon Unviersity, plus USD 10,000 merit-based scholarship.

Very hesitant between Tepper and Darden.

The biggest advantage of Darden is the loan, free of co-signer, which is the biggest disadvantage of CMU.

Not sure if a co-signer loan would impact the application of US visa.  The assistance of a co-signer will demonstrate my close tie with US and the VO will deem I intend to immigrate to US?

Comparision of Tepper and Darden:

1. rankings: Darden is a little bit higher, but no substantial difference with Tepper;

2. strengths: both are strong in finance and general management with Tepper more focusing on technology side, which I wish to focus in my study.

3. size: both are small program, to my taste;

4. placement: Darden might be a little bit better. Well, I guss it depends on in which industry you wanna have a job;

5. community: Darden is very friendly; Tepper, haven't got much chance to communicate with current students - can't tell at this stage;

6. location: Tepper is located in a more industrialized area.  Both are 9 hour drive to Boston.

I have some ideas about these two schools, but still love to have the input from the folks at CD.

CMU is definitely a bigger name than UV. But I think Darden is ranked better than Tepper, not by much though. And $10000 scholarship should somehow offset the differece.

As far as visa is concerned, I dont think a co-signer will have a huge negative impact on your application if you are about to show your determination of going back to china upon graduation.

Darden is top 15 school or better while CMU is not.

Darden may have more graduates to go to the consulting industry or IB.

Both programs are rigorous and tough; one focus on case study and the other on quatitatives.

Yeah, I agree.  CMU graduates have a better chance to go to manufacturing industry. 

But, CMU is strong in finance, too, ranked 4 by Wall Street Journal.  So, I can't understand why CMU graduates have less chance to get into IB and consulting than Dardenites.  Wanna know the truth.

Although I got 99 in advanced math at college, I can be sort of easily bored by quatititatives.  Case study sounds more interesting.  Well, on the other hand, quantitative is only the approach CMU uses to address the business issues.   I can't imagine all the work be done by quatitatives?  Is it true?

it is not a big deal, but it still helps i guess.

small_head raised a very valid point. Darden is all case method while CMU is not. So go with your preference. I heard Darden's workload is tremendous. dont know of CMU though.

Darden's intense workload might be a bit too much for a woman at my age...hahaha.......very good point....

i never said quatitative is more practical. I think case and lecture both have their pros and cons. It is hard to say which one is better. Of course you will be better trained to be a consultant if you go with all case method since they do talk a lot. And if you are aiming at a quantitative job, lecture might help a bit more. For hte others, i think they are more or less the same.

What is a quatative job?  accountant? or a financial analyst?  Forgive my ignorance...

I guess lectures will also give students a lot of chance to speak loud their ideas....
