这里的number不是数字的意思 也不是群体 很多的意思 而是确切数量的意思 可数名词 因为这种鸟的数量肯定不止一只 所以用numbers。

mm, i just check the dictionary, it says nothing about when to use 'number' over 'numbers'. Actually, what you are trying to approve is that' numbers ' is not acceptable. i don't agree with that. Both ' number' and 'numbers' are good. It depends on the logic meaning of the sentence.

还是理解为群体好，逻辑上很多的个体构成一个群体。所以NUMBERS很形象。

而且NUMBER就有数量的意思，为何用NUMBERS来表示数量呢？

另外，你举的例子中的NUMBERS的确不可以解释为群体，但不能就些判断这个题目就不可以呀。
