OG的答案是B。我认为D，exist应该是发生在lead之前的。所以应该用完成时。请大家指正。多谢

lead的主语是his studies，所以如果说在lead之前的话，只能去studies里面去找。

另外一个固定的用法：

表达曾经存在的东西使用：what is/are now...

If u exam the meaning of the sentence carefully, you will find that when clause illogically completes the sentence. The underlined part should be the content of the concept rather than the time when his study led to the proposal of such a concept.

I agree that the underlined part happened before the proposal. If "when" clause is used, the underlined part will not be considered as the content of the concept. Obviously, "when" clause mispresents the orginally idea of the sentence.

有人解释介词in是什么成分吗？

偶认为是E呀！！study...lled led Louis Agassiz to propose in 1837 the concept of an age when great ice sheets existed in areas now that are temperate
        

1）时态我选过去时，主句中的时间状语对应了动词过去式led，从句中没有明显的时间变化或对比，保持一致

2）when从句解释an age(据句意是冰川时代). 意思是：LA在1837年提出一个冰川时代的概念

保留解释，但弃E选B。毕竟OG是上帝啊！

an age in which 是固定用法（见白勇书） 但的确见过。。an age when。。

eg. "We live in an age when unnecessary things are our only necessities."  --  Oscar Wilde

同样的“霸王条款”还有：the period when ; the year that

我想D错误的原因是有一个current，那就清楚地表明exist这个动作现在还在持续啊，怎么能用过去完成时呢？所以这里的时态肯定是要用现在时的。

关于E选项，反正做过一遍OG上的题，看了一遍OG的解释我是更加不明白定语从句要修饰的词了，发现有几个题连OG也说得前后不一致。。。
