后人在公元前391年还不存在怎么失去呀？我是不是有些钻牛角尖了？

但是想不明白憋得我不舒服呀！

I believe the original arrangement of the sentence should have been:

D) as a result of the destruction in A.D. 391
  of the library at Alexandria, the largest of the ancient world,

But then since the green words are too long, the author rearranged it and put it in front of the sentence,一来可以避免destruction 与它的修设词of 被隔开，二来可以避免头重脚轻，三来可以emphasize 时间的重要性。

另外，在英文中，这种时间逻辑是可以接受的。譬如：I lost my father before I was born.
