support for classifying...
support to do something...
support somebody in (doing) something
例如:
A multi-dimensional approach has the potential to discover and support creative processes in the local community.
If you are new, decide which senior colleagues would support you in your work.

(B) A beautiful work of art is more valuable than the money it could be sold for, whatever the amount.
sell something for £100/$50/30p etc
Toni's selling her car for £700.

(C) Rhone, sold for $20.2 million,
35.    In June of 1987, The Bridge of Trinquetaille, Vincent van Gogh’s view of an iron bridge over the Rhone sold for $20.2 million and it was the second highest price ever paid for a painting at auction.
(A) Rhone sold for $20.2 million and it was
(B) Rhone, which sold for $20.2 million, was
(C) Rhone, was sold for $20.2 million,
(D) Rhone was sold for $20.2 million, being
(E) Rhone, sold for $20.2 million, and was

sell at/for £100/$50/30p etc (=be offered for sale at £100/$50/30p etc)
Smoke alarms sell for as little as five pounds.

how about 'in support of' and by 'supporting ..."  eg:
925.    Where once the union had acquiesced to the prejudices of its English-speaking members by supporting the imposition of an alien tax on immigrant workers, after 1897 the United Mine Workers made a determined effort to enlist Italians and Slavs in its ranks.
(A) Where once the union had acquiesced to the prejudices of its English-speaking members by supporting
(B) Where once the union acquiesced to it English-speaking members’ prejudice for the support of
(C) While once the union had acquiesced to the prejudices of its English-speaking members in support of
(D) While once the union acquiesced勉强同意 to its English-speaking members’ prejudice in supporting
(E) While once the union had acquiesced to the prejudices of its English-speaking members in its supporting of

129. In an effort to reduce their inventories, Italian vintners have cut prices; their wines have been priced to sell, and they are.

(A) have been priced to sell, and they are

(B) are priced to sell, and they have

(C) are priced to sell, and they do

(D) are being priced to sell, and haveC

(E) had been priced to sell, and they have

In choice C, the best answer, do is correctly used in place of the full verb do sell; in this verb, do is a conjugated form and sell is in the infinitive form, corresponding to its previous use in the sentence (in the phrase priced to sell). In choice A, the omitted word is selling; in B, D, and E, it is sold. Neither of these forms corresponds properly to to sell earlier in the sentence. Also, in E, the past perfect had been priced signifies that the wines had been priced to sell before the prices were cut.

Google 了一下, in support of 也存在, 尽管 longman 上没提.

抱歉, 刚刚看到除 support 不同外,  C 用while once, A 用where once.

-----------

Where=Whereas , 在这里应和while没有大区别,主要是support

A, best. by supporting修饰had acquiesced; 从句意理解,再加上主句有after 1897 这个时间状语,where once后用过去完成时比过去时好。

B, for the support of, 感觉表达不对,而且it English-speaking members’ prejudice 这个很难理解。

C, in support of 修饰对象不明,更象是修饰前面的名词 its English-speaking members

D, in supporting

E, in its supporting of表达形式和意思都不好。

-------
