Dear Sir/Madam

I graduated with Bachelor Deg in Mechanical Engineering in Uni of Bristol (UK) in yr 2005, 1 yr lab engineer experience in R&D department and 0.75 yr global projects management experience in logistic department in Intel (Pudong site) until now. Not done GMAT yet, but planning to apply MBA in 2008.

it seems my working experiences are not very sufficent, just more than 2 years time, i am wondering how big is the chance for me to get CEIBS mba admission with my background regardless to the GMAT result?

if my background is not good enough, a high GMAT result (such as 750) will compensate my lack of management experiences? thank you very much

Regards

Hendi

Hendi,It's hard to say whether 2~3 years work experience is sufficient or not.No doubt that high GMAT score will complement a lot. However,I'd like to suggest you also spend efforts on interview preparation and essay writing.Your oversea experience and international company working experience are  plus!Try to identify your reasons to pursue MBA at this time being and why your choose CEIBS.How your career plan fit into this choice.Perform well in your interview for both individual part and case discussion part. These might help more than GMAT or short term working experience sometimes.Personally, I'd say GMAT or Working experience is something like bottom line.As long as you achieve over 680 and the minimum years of work experience(2yrs), you have a good chance to get in.

Good luck!

Sarah

Firstly, welcomet to apply for CEIBS Ceibs is definitely one of the best institutions in China these days.

To answer your question,I want to be frank, that I see no obvious advantage from your aforementioned profile. GPA or Multi-language speaking is not key concern for admission. What they value mostly are: Your education background,GMAT,English proficiency, career plan and potential, your fit into CEIBS culture, communication skills...

However, I can really feel your passiontate about CEIBS, which is a good sign. My suggestion to you: In order to stand out from the all the applicants:

you have to be a good story teller, try to describe one or two achievements in your essay.

Go and get a 700+ GMAT!

I do not see you have much chance to speak a lot English during daily work.Promise you that this cannot be improved overnight! nor through any intenstive training program. But all the practice or mock interview does help!

Be clear about your career plan.

Join the info session and talk to CEIBS students

Last but not least, keep momentum and be confident

Good luck

1. The books will be released to you after the wingbook store receives the books.I think they will inform you to fetch them.

2. I really don't understand this question... but I believe ONE laptop is enough and is a must. It's your own discretion to add a desk top in the dorm. But the dorm is really small...Stats does require you bring laptop! So get it ready before school start.

One more warning to all intakers, be cautious about the security on campus. Normally, it's pretty safe to leave the laptops in discussion rooms, lab, classrooms, public areas.... but recently, we found someone lost laptop on campus.

Dear Sarah,

With reference to your previous response to others, I can see that you are quite remarkable for your warm heart. So I have some questions and concerns for your kindly response and help!

Background: I graduated from Renmin University of China 6 years ago, majored in Business administration. During 6 years, I have accumulated comprehensive experience with 3 world famous multinationals: ReckittBenckiser, L'Oreal and Tetra Pak. All my experience focus on sales management. Now, in pursuit of my MBA dream, I resigned and decided to go out for that. The only school that I intend to apply is CEIBS. So I have put all eggs in one basket.

My targeted GMAT score is 700+.

Career plan: After MBA, I plan to work as Marketing function in consumer goods industry, in which I really show great interest.

So my questions are...1) from above brief introduction of my background, I wants to get your kindest suggestion on whether I take some advantage in applying for Ceibs and what improvement should I make?

2) Furthermore, if I could be admitted, is there any possiblity, based on my background, of awarding scholarship? I do have some financial constraints.

3) Besides, I am living in Beijing, so I plan to work in Beijing after graduation, does that mean I will lose much more opportunity than those who intend to work in Shanghai?

Thanks in advance for your kindest suggestion!

i cannot give further more suggestions. You background looks good and well qualified. A 700+ GMAT is sth not firm yet. But one question that you will definitely be asked is "why resigned?"Think about it....

2) Furthermore, if I could be admitted, is there any possiblity, based on my background, of awarding scholarship? I do have some financial constraints.

I think yes.But background is only part of the assessment. Interview performance counts more.

3) Besides, I am living in Beijing, so I plan to work in Beijing after graduation, does that mean I will lose much more opportunity than those who intend to work in Shanghai?

I don't know...We have students found jobs in both cities as well as overseas.I feel most jobs are located in Shanghai though.Maybe most students prefer to work in SH. But if you target at global companies, most of them are quite flexible at job location. You may also have to travel a lot. I used to stick to Shanghai before I joined MBA.But on the first class we had in CEIBS, we were taught to be adaptive..

Thanks in advance for your kindest suggestion!

My point of view: don't put all the eggs in one basket. This applies for any investment and MBA is one sort of investment too.

To answer your questions, please see above in red.
